Join Sarah Wilson and Emma Bergman to celebrate the completion of the Life Histories of Hamtramck project!
This summer, we recorded the oral histories of 20 Hamtramckans, including immigrants from Macedonia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Poland, a veteran of the Detroit Tigers, the Olympic boxing coach and owner ofHamtramck Boxing Club, the owner of the recently closed 7 Brothers Bar, the city's first black Chief of Police Detectives, the president of Al-Islah Islamic Center, and many other life-long Hamtramck residents. On October 9 at Bank Suey, we will be listening to a selection of the recorded stories and celebrating some of the amazing people that make up Hamtramck's history. Along with the event, we are launching our online archive of Hamtramck memories, so check back for the link in the coming weeks.
The event is free, catered, and open to the public. Please invite anyone - we hope to see you there!
