Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. At Book Suey we have a full day of events planned — workshops, music, food, giveaways AND... there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online.
SCHEDULE:
Noon-8 PM
Kids are invited to plant their very own fairy tale pollinator seeds in take-home pots. Hosted by Tiny Acres.
Noon-8 PM
Kids are invited to make book page oragami with artist Fiala Salatrik.
1-2 PM
Makey Makey workshop for kids of all ages.
2-3 PM
Literary mustache painting by local artist Alice V. Schneider.
3-4 PM
Drag Queen Story Hour with local drag goddess AphroditeQween. Books and gift bags provided by a generous grant from Hope Starts Here, Detroit’s Early Childhood Partnership of the W.K. Kellogg and Kresge Foundation.
4-5:30 PM
Take-home ‘zine workshop with local print and bookmaker (and Book Suey member-owner!) Laura Beyer.
4-5:30 PM
Performance by Hamtramck’s own Honest to God Jug Band.
