Art + Story reading

We are so excited to host community leader Rev. Sharon Buttry’s art! Sharon’s work will be on display during all Bank Suey open hours during this time frame.

In partnership with Book Suey, we will have a celebration of the exhibit as well as reading on Saturday August 3rd at 2p!

About Rev. Sharon Buttry, MSW 

Rev. Sharon A. Buttry, MSW has recently retired as Associate Director of Training and Education at the International Hope Center based in Hamtramck, Michigan. She also recently retired from International Ministries, American Baptist Churches.  Rev. Buttry has extensive experience in urban ministry in the United States with the American Baptists, Christian and Missionary Alliance and International Foursquare churches.  She has led workshops in social ministry and trauma awareness/recovery in Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, India, Nagaland, Ethiopia, Kenya, Myanmar, Bangladeshi and Thailand, and the Middle East.  She earned graduate degrees in ministry and social work in Philadelphia between 1992- 1996 and was ordained in 1996 via the American Baptist Churches at Calvary Baptist Church of Norristown, PA.   Rev. Buttry has been a leader in the Detroit area in interfaith relationships. She contributed an interview and chapter in the book FRIENDSHIP and FAITH,  (Read the Spirit, Front Edge Publishing).  Rev. Buttry serves as a voluntary Hamtramck Police Chaplain.  She is a grant writer and administrator in community & police relations for Hamtramck.  Rev. Sharon Buttry is married to the Rev. Dr. Daniel Buttry.  They both serve as Special Appointment Global Consultant for Peace and Justice, International Ministries, American Baptist Churches.  Sharon travels and volunteers with Dan 3 months of the year conducting conflict transformation training and mentoring the next generation of peace builders.  When they are home, they live in a house they rescued from blight in Hamtramck, Michigan, known as Hopewell House, where they mentor ministry leaders. They are parents of three adult children residing in Michigan and Texas.  They are proud grandparents of two young granddaughters. Rev. Buttry’s interests include gardening, painting, and adventure camping.
